SMALL PRINT ZINEFEST 2005

A veritable bonanza of zines, comics and self-publishing.

Held for the second time in July 2005, Small Print is a series of events promoting and highlighting New Zealand’s zine culture.

The programme will include a benefit show featuring Chris Knox, an art opening, a film screening and the main event, a one-day zinefest at Grey Lynn Library Hall including workshops, a reading area, collaborative zine making and trading and selling of small press publications.

Small Print will be a gathering and celebration of New Zealand’s self-publishing community. Descended from early science-fiction and music fanzines, today’s zines are a DIY alternative to mainstream publishing.

Small Print Director Moira Clunie explains “There are tens of thousands of zines and comics being self-published worldwide currently, and thousands of small presses publishing books. In Auckland, the scene is supported by local shops like Cherry Bomb Comics and The Misfit Theatre, and people are publishing everything from their own poetry to anarchist political rants
to sci-fi comics.”

The first Small Print was held in October 2003, and attracted about 250 people. Ms Clunie anticipates a much bigger turnout this year, with at least double the number of exhibitors at the main zinefest and a fuller programme. Visitors are expected from as far afield as Brisbane and
Wellington.

Entrance to most events is free, and open to everyone. To find out more information, see the website at http://smallprint.org.nz.

What Famous Mangaka Eat for Breakfast

I eat one fried egg (organic) every single day…sometimes I remember that there is juice but mostly I drink water.  I also have a teaspoon of cod liver oil.  And I have to take a lot of food supplements.
