Zap! Pow! Blog!

Comics aren’t just for kids any more… now adult professional Australian cartoonists can yammer on about whatever they like.

“Join the conversation about comics in this three-day blogging event. Guest illustrators including Kevin Patrick, Dillon Naylor, Trudy Cooper and Gary Chaloner will chat about their work, inspiration, favourite comic heroes and more. Starts 12 January!”

ComicsLifestyle Logo Competition

To ring in the New Year Comics Lifestyle is presenting a spanking new LOGO COMPETITION.

We’re currently sporting one by Michael Pee Fikaris and we’d like to set up a rotating banner showing the diverse styles and sensibilities of those in the *life*. We’ll credit banner artists on a profiles page. What’s that? You think you don’t have what it takes? Give it a try, we double-dog dare you. Entries (first one below) will be archived on Flickr at http://tinyurl.com/yzv8xq

And if having your art on the front page ain’t enough, there are a few incentives to boot.

Prizes: #1 Kitsch Cambodia art portrait of yourself OR a friend. (See example) One of a kind, frameable. Just take a picture of yourself – drawing, eating, taking a bath, you name it. You choose the pose, we paint so it shows.

#2: Southeast Asia comics care package:
a walloping chunk of media from left field.

#3: A package of Ratanakiri coffee, perfect for late night drawing sessions.

(Shipping may take months, you’ll have to be patient, OK?)

Honorable mentions / Consolation prizes will be awarded as is appropriate.

Give the site a read and you’ll get the general idea. (Ok, I know it’s been a little slow the last few months of the year.) Comics Lifestyle reserves the right to reject logos that are Lame, or Don’t Quite Get It. It’s a tough call to make sometimes. It doesn’t mean we don’t care. Submission and acceptance of a logo does not guarantee we will cover your comic, book launch, or dog and pony show.

Competition ends on Valentine’s Day, Feb 14.
(We are always happy to get contributions after the deadline, no guarantees we will use it though.)

Contributions welcome via LOGO@comicslifestyle.com. As long as it says ‘comicslifestyle.com’ in some form you’re off to a good start. Web optimized JPEGs, PNGs, GIF files are preferred. Color / Black and White are OK. Standard banner size is preferred (Say 150 x 750 pixels? We’re flexible.) Please, no Flash files, they’re less browser-compatible in developing countries.

A roster of international comicists will help make the final cut. If you’d like to help with the competition, drop a line.

New ‘7 pages Digest’

This digest is filled with the usual craziness, although this issue features a lot more single images per page, some which were done for illustrationfriday.com. I also have a comic of my own and also Ash has a comic in there too.
I’m planning on trying to bring these little minis out more regularly, so I’ll keep you all posted.
Cheers Anthony.

The latest digest is available to download in PDF format (click on the link next to the comics tag) and print for personal use only. It may not be printed and used on a wider scale than that of personal reading without the permission from the artist (Me)

National Rifle Association Brochure for You

Complete with comic styley illustrations using Hurricane Katrina as a scare tactic:
NRA brochure
Art is apparently by Chris Gall, who does a pretty good Charles Burns emulation.
