Comics & Autobiography

The recent success of graphic novels by creators such as Alison Bechdel, Harvey Pekar and Marjane Satrapi has demonstrated that comics can be a radically effective way of telling one’s story. Integral to both “Fun Home” and “American Splendor” is the idea that ordinary people have extraordinary stories to tell. As this class explores different ways of telling autobiographical stories through comics, we will write and draw from our own experience, leading to the creation of a self-published, autobiographical mini-comic. Writer/artists from all backgrounds and levels of ability are welcome.
