Cosmetic Surgery in Cambodia

I’m seeing an increasing number of advertisements, as well as dubious products on the shelves in pharmacies and supermarkets. Could not make this stuff up. (Sigh.) Can’t people be comfortable with the skin they’re in?

Cambodian Rites of Passing: “DeathPower” Book Launch

I’m pleased to note that academic and friend Erik Davis is launching his new book at Meta-House Tuesday evening. “Book Launch About The Buddhism” Note: *Free Finger Food*!! While funerals can be a bit socially taboo to discuss, Erik’s extensive religious studies background enables him to profile unique and fascinating glimpses into how ritual [...]

The Art of Dissent

The Cambodian Center for Independent Media launched its ‘Legacy of Impunity’ exhibition at Meta-House this evening, in tandem with Cambodian Center for Human Rights’ “Never Forget” (at the Mansion, Foreign Correspondents Club). Both were launched in solidarity with today’s International Day To End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.               [...]

Update: Fire behind Java Cafe

This last Friday morning (estimated 1 AM) a fire broke out in the buildings behind Java Cafe. Four residences were damaged as well as the office of Java Cafe / Gallery, including a number of irreplaceable art items in storage. Nine families remain in the area, with severe structural damage. (Above.) It is possible [...]

Swiping Boldly Forward – In Cambodia

In a country where Valentine’s Day bears broad similarities to Prom Night, romance is serious business.   Hence there’s a bit of hubbub about the first Khmer-language ‘friend finder’ (wink wink) / dating app ‘Matchstix‘, going strong since its July launch.—s-first—-friend-finder—-app/ Tinder-style functionality in Khmer language? Many parents will be appalled at [...]

Thinks I Want You Should Know About Cambodia

I should caution my Cambodian friends there is some slang in this comic, for fun. (The final panel references a particularly notorious hip hop tune.) And I should caution my Anglophone readers I may use Khmer (Cambodian) words in the images and accompanying text of my comics.  …

Hi JW! I think I was exposed to Let's Sing Songs About and Inspired by Quickdraw at a crucial point in my development, and as such, it is stuck in my head on a regular basis, and often rewritten for any circumstance I'm in. I will think of some examples later.

thanks. I'm looking ofrward to the Stumptown con myself. This is the first time I've been involved in organizing. It's an interesting experience.

Nope. No mp3s of the opera for a while. I like that it's a live event. There are a couple short bits up on youtube, but it's pretty minimal.

Hey John,
Tasmania doesn't have anything else to do, so we just draw comics all day.
Have you got any new comics out? Wanna do a trade?

Thanks, John.
I really appreciate the welcome, but please, don't use an automatic translator... here's what to said to me: "good come to Comics Lifestyle!
This is kind of experience, we'll sees what emerges.
I be very happy to see some more international members, I use the website because you likes!"
These automatic things are not very good.
Best wishes,
