The Dark Side of the 'Toon

IN HIS weekly Pub Strip, Melbourne cartoonist Fred Negro has chronicled the history of St Kilda's pub culture for the past 20 years. As the suburb has changed, so has the satirical strip, which runs in the free street-press paper Inpress. But somehow Pub Strip has lurched its way to a significant milestone, its 1000th instalment, despite often featuring in the same panel Dostoevsky and a perambulating penis.
